G. Hartzell & Son

Who We Are

G. Hartzell & Son is a family-owned manufacturer of dental & surgical instruments, founded by George F. and George O. Hartzell in 1935. Unlike most instrument companies, our firm is an actual MANUFACTURER. Approximately 85% of our instruments are manufactured from our factory located in the East Bay area of San Francisco, and (with 2 “special” exceptions) the balance of production is from Germany.

Over the years, we have maintained the highest standards of manufacturing excellence, through our policy of controlled-growth and continuous research and development. We are proud to have developed innovations such as the lightest weight stainless steel handles available for curettes and scalers, as well as our cone socket instruments (removable tips) that provide for an extremely cost effective line of scalers, curettes, and periotomes.

We take pride in our skilled craftsperson’s and we will not shift our production to other countries. Our dedicated workforce, backed by incredibly advanced production methods (CNC machinery, computerized bending, etc.) create the highest quality dental and surgical instruments available.

G. Hartzell & Son uses only the highest quality components and manufacturing methods backed by a comprehensive quality control program and policy. These methods have led to our firm’s recognition for superior quality by industry leaders throughout the world.
