Solaris Dental Design Inc. provides a full range of dental solutions from high quality fixed dental prosthesis to value-added continuing education for dentists and technicians throughout the Lower Mainland.
Established in 2004 at the Waterfront Centre Mall in Vancouver, Solaris was the first all-ceramic dental laboratory in British Columbia. In 2008, after 7 years of operation, D.Tek Canada Laboratories Inc. closed its doors to merge with Solaris. By the third quarter of 2010, Oral Design Incorporated finalized the conglomerate.
Acquiring its own building in 17 Fawcett Road, Coquitlam is the first among many steps in an aggressive development plan to expand and modernize the dental laboratory.

We are living in competitive times, but business is definitely still out there. In the early days, gold crowns were just something that people had to have. These days, people have more choices and they are more careful. They want something authentic, durable, and biocompatible.

People are always prepared to pay for something that is different and has a substantial value. We believe that a product should be of the highest quality and withstand the test of time. We want to create crowns that the patient will still be wearing naturally decades from now.
Would we make less expensive crowns to beat offshore productions?
No. Definitely not. We don’t think it would be right to come up with something much cheaper because it means that we would need a different kind of craftsmanship. When discussing with people who work in production, sometimes they show a product and say it has to be scrapped as it has porosity. And we say we can’t see them, so they tell us to use a microscope. Should we tell them not to look so closely anymore because our products must be produced cheaply? Should we use scrap metal to cast our crowns and use substandard porcelain? I don’t think our customers would like that. Even without patients knowing, the guilt of providing crowns that will break, leak, and cause health concerns will not let us sleep at night. “There is no pillow so soft as a clear conscience?
People would probably love to have a Solaris crown for half the price, but that’s not possible because of the work and materials that go into them. Our dentists and patients want the quality and for them the price is only secondary. In the end, health is wealth and a thing of beauty is a joy forever.

Dr. Rosh Govindasamy
Dr. Rosh Govindasamy has been practicing dentistry in the Yukon for the past 18 years. She graduated from the University of Toronto in 1991, and is the owner-operator of Murraya Dental Centre.
She enjoys forming long term relationships with her patients and providing up to date dental care. Her many hours of continuing education enrich her discussions with patients and help to improve their oral health.
Dr. Govindasamy has a strong interest in practicing aesthetic dentistry while providing sound solutions for her patients.
Dr. John Stern
Following graduation from the University of Toronto in 1976, Dr. Stern practised in that city for a year before deciding that big city life was not for him. So what better place to move to for small-town life than Fort Nelson B.C. where he stayed for two years. Then, in a classic repeat of the Goldilocks and the Three Bears theme, he found that while Fort Nelson was a bit too small, Whitehorse, up the Alaska Highway in the Yukon, seemed to be about the right size to settle in and raise a family. So he checked it out in 1979 and has been residing here happily ever since.
Although a long time dentist in Whitehorse, he is an enthusiastic newcomer to Murraya Dental where he will be practising until retirement. When not in the clinic, Dr. Stern can be found on the mountain bike trails in the summer and the X-country ski trails in the winter.

Dr. Zuzanna Apel
Dr. Apel graduated from dentistry at the University of Saskatchewan in 2002 and received DMD degree with Great Distinction.
During her studies she received the awards for her academic excellence, among them the Canadian Dental Association President’s Award.
After graduation she attended an externship at the St. Louis University where she was trained in dental implants. After that she spent seven years practicing dentistry in Rolla, Missouri.
She moved to Edmonton with her husband Derek and their two children: Patricia and Dominic in 2009.
Dr. Alexander McPherson
Dr. McPherson graduated from dentistry at the Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2009. He is trained to provide dental treatments with concious sedation.

Dr. Andrea Mandelbaum Smith
Dr. Andrea Mandelbaum Smith has been passionate about dentistry and becoming a dentist since high school. She completed an Honours degree at York University majoring in Biology and minoring in Psychology. Andrea was overjoyed when she was accepted to Dental School at the University of Western Ontario where she received her DDS diploma in 2009. After two years of practicing as an associate dentist in the GTA, Dr. Andrea Mandelbaum Smith discovered an opportunity to practice in Keswick in the winter of 2011.
During this time, Dr. Mandelbaum Smith developed a personal connection to many of her patients and a general fondness towards the residents of the Keswick community. Then in 2014, Andrea had a great stroke of luck with the chance to open a dental office of her own. So began her journey and Passion-Project; Cook’s Bay Dental. Today, Andrea is thrilled to be able to serve the residents of Keswick and surrounding towns; seeing friendly familiar faces and building new life-long relationships.
Dr Mandelbaum Smith lives in Vaughan with her husband and two young children. Andrea likes trying new foods, dreaming about vacations and spending time with her extended family when she’s not working her two full time positions; Dentist and Mom.
