Dr. Yacyshyn enjoys discussing patients’ dental needs, and discovering the solutions that work best, given their particular circumstance. He is currently accepting new patients.

Dr. David H. Maclure

Educated in England, the USA, West Africa, and Canada, Dr. Dave Maclure has been a dental practitioner since 1972, when he graduated from the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Dentistry with a B.Sc. and D.D.S. degrees.

He has extensive experience in the practice of dentistry in Canada and in Australia, in all aspects of dentistry, including bonded white fillings, cosmetic dentistry (such as veneers, porcelain jacket crowns, and bleaching), functional orthodontics for adults and children, and dentures, fixed bridgework and implants.

“I offer my patients a gentle touch and a commitment to professional excellence in a welcoming and supportive atmosphere,” says Dr. Maclure.

Dr. Tyler Verhaeghe

Edmonton born and raised, Dr. Verhaeghe completed a one-year dental residency program at the University of Alberta upon graduation from dental school. He is currently in the inaugural class of the Masters in Health Sciences Education program and has a keen interest in removable prosthodontics and the use of video technology as a means of knowledge transfer. He is the coordinator of the Dresden Dentistry Exchange Program and serves on the Dentistry Admission Committee.

Dr. Hank Tan

Dr. Tan received his Master’s degree and specialty training in Prosthodontics from the University of Washington in 1987. He joined the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Alberta in 1989. He is a full-time Associate Professor in the Division of Restorative Dentistry in charge of Removable Prosthodontics.

In addition to his teaching and research commitments, he has maintained an active part-time prosthodontic practice since 1990. Dr. Tan’s research interests include testing of dental materials and loading conditions of dental prostheses. His clinical expertise is in the treatment of comprehensive prosthodontic cases using fixed and removable restorations, including implant-supported restorations.

Dr. Cheryl Cable

We are extremely fortunate to have Dr. Cable as part of our team. Edmonton born and raised, Dr. Cable received a Bachelor of Science Degree, with honours from the University of Alberta in 1992. She went directly from graduating with a DDS with distinction from the University of Alberta in 1997 to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota for Prosthodontic and Maxillofacial Prosthodontic specialty training completed in 2001. She is the second Canadian to have completed training in this program. There are only two training programs in this field in North America – the other is a post specialty program at MD Anderson. The residency is four years in duration and only one resident is accepted every two years.

Her training covered the following areas by world renowned specialists: Anatomy, Biostatistics, Dental Materials, Dental Laboratory Techniques, Orofacial Pain, Medical Oncology, Oral Diagnosis, Otorhinolaryngologic Surgery, and Radiation and Medical Oncology. This is in addition to conventional and advanced Removable, Fixed and Maxillofacial Prosthodontics. The majority of the patients seen in these clinics were seeking second and more professional opinions on extremely complex and life threatening clinical situations. They travelled from around the world and were at points of complete exasperation. She has seen patients with devastating life situations and have helped them function and achieve results they did not think possible. For that she is incredibly grateful.

Dr. Cable is a board certified specialist in Prosthodontics (Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada – obtained at the first possible opportunity after her specialty education was completed) – with advanced training in Maxillofacial Prosthodontics. The mission of The Royal College of Dentists of Canada is to maintain the high standards of practice of the recognized dental specialties by examining qualified candidates for admission to Fellowship in the College and by working with stakeholders to establish standards for dental specialty education, practice and certification. In addition, Dr. Cable works for the Provincial Government of Alberta on a dental consultant basis.

Prosthodontics, also known as dental prosthetics or prosthetic dentistry, is one of nine dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association, Royal College of Dentists of Canada, and Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. Prosthodontics is the dental specialty pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance of the oral function, comfort, appearance and health of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or deficient teeth and/or oral and maxillofacial tissues using biocompatible substitutes. Maxillofacial prosthodontists treat patients who have acquired and congenital defects of the head and neck (maxillofacial) region due to cancer, surgery, trauma, and/or birth defects. Treatment is multidisciplinary, involving oral and maxillofacial surgeons, plastic surgeons, head and neck surgeons, ENT doctors, oncologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals.

Dr. Cable works as part of an internationally recognized team on patients who have severe functional impairment and utilize her extensive training in this area to restore their function. Dr. Cable uses her private practice time to work as a maxillofacial prosthodontist and has been fortunate to work at COMPRU – now known as iRSM – as well as a Prosthodontist with a senior colleague (Dr. Mel Taskey) who has been an incredible mentor in the field of motor vehicle accident patients. She is part of the Functional Assessment team at iRSM and has full access to the resources at the Misericordia Hospital and at the University of Alberta. She has hospital privileges at several hospitals, and is proud to assist fellow Albertans in their rehabilitation efforts.

Dr. Mel Taskey

Dr. W. Mel Taskey has been a dental practitioner in the City of Edmonton since the mid-1950’s, and has specialized in fixed and removable prosthodontics since 1968. A past President of the Edmonton and District Dental Society and the Alberta Academy of Prosthodontics, Dr. Taskey has been a pioneer in the science of functional orthodontics and the treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction in the Edmonton area.

Dr. Taskey’s areas of specialization include the treatment and therapy of motor vehicle accident victims; orthodontic therapy as an alternative to surgery for TMJ patients; the use of implants in establishing TMJ stability and occlusal maintenance; treatment and therapy for cleft palate patients; and extensive experience with difficult crown & bridge and denture patients.

Married for many years to the lovely Esther Ann Devine, Dr. Taskey is an enthusiastic golfer, and enjoys spending time with his three children and their families. He often travels to Germany to visit his daughter and grandchildren.
