Who We Are
Aarm Dental Group was founded in 1985 by Dr. Jim Armstrong. Jim is a graduate of the dental school at the University of British Columbia. Jim is a fanatic about fishing, skiing, mountain biking and, of course, his family. Jim’s vision for Aarm was a group of like minded professionals who are dedicated to private practice, but maintain an “academic orientation” through life long participation in graduate training programs. Many Aarm dental partners also teach at dental schools or international/national dental organizations.
Dr. Vineyard Choy
Dr. Vineyard Choy is a graduate of the UBC Dental School who has owned two practices on the Sunshine Coast. He is an experienced GP dentist who has taken many postgraduate courses in aesthetic dentistry, as well as extra training in Root Canal Therapy and Invisalign (invisible-braces). Dr. Choy takes pride in providing his patients with dental care with a soft touch, using the latest 21st Centruy technologies at the Aarm Dental Group. Dr. Choy is a West-End resident who regularly runs around the Seawall and has run several marathons. Any other free time is spent raising his daughter. He has been to Venezuela and Ecuador providing dentistry to the less privileged.
Dr. James Vu
My name is Dr James Vu and I received my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Alberta. After dental school, I practiced rurally outside of Edmonton (in Drayton Valley and Saddle Lake) for the first few years of my career. I then bought my first practice in Whitehorse, a beautiful community in the Yukon where I worked before relocating to Vancouver. Practicing in these smaller communities has truly given me a much stronger grasp of my discipline and a greater appreciation for my profession.
My practice now involves: general dentistry, cosmetic and pediatric dentistry along with comprehensive treatment in implant dentistry, difficult oral surgery, and root canal therapy. I am passionate about dental implants and is a proud member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID). I am also a graduate of the Vancouver AAID Maxicourse, a comprehensive year-long implant educational continuum with over 300 hours of didactic and surgical training.
It is my priority to stay up to date with current dental technology and methods of treatment. My philosophy is to treat all patients like family. I feel communication and trust are essential in every day practice and that the patient always comes first.
In my spare time, I enjoy doing something creative. Swimming and photography are a few of my other hobbies. I also like to eat, the idea of food interests me. I am happily engaged to my fiancé, a physician and cardiology fellow here in Vancouver. I sincerely look forward to seeing you at the clinic.
